The first owner of the Wellington Hotel, Edwin Cox, bought the land in 1848, licensed the hotel in 1851 and named it the Duke Of Wellington. Although the building and name have been altered, it stil retains a high level of detailing and the relatively original state of the major facades. The Hotel is an important visual element of Wellington Square.
